Information You Send
Search Terms
When you type a name, county, or other lookup term into a search box powered by a third-party provider, that query is sent to the provider operating the tool. Harlan County Inmate Population does not keep a separate log of those search terms on its own system.
Messages
If you email us or submit a contact message, we use the information in that message to review and answer the request. We do not share contact messages outside the organization unless a legal obligation requires it.
Information Collected Automatically
Like many websites, this site may collect technical information when a page loads. That information helps measure use, diagnose errors, and keep the site functioning.
- IP address used for the visit.
- Browser name and version.
- Device type and operating system.
- Pages viewed and approximate time spent on them.
- Referring website, when one is provided by the browser.
- Date and time stamps for requests.
Cookies
Cookies and similar tools may be used to understand how visitors move through the site and to support analytics or advertising. You can block cookies in your browser settings, although some features or partner tools may work differently when cookies are disabled.
How Information Is Used
- To keep Harlan County pages available, readable, and reasonably fast.
- To pass search requests to the correct third-party search provider.
- To see which jail, court, roster, and locator pages are useful to readers.
- To detect broken links, outages, security issues, or other technical problems.
- To display advertising that may be based on general interests or browsing activity.
Outside Websites and Public Records
This site links to the Harlan County Detention Center, Harlan County Sheriff's Office, Kentucky Court of Justice, Kentucky Department of Corrections, VineLink, BOP, ICE, public-record statutes, and third-party search tools. Once you leave this site, the privacy policy and terms of the destination site control what happens there.
Kentucky public-record access is governed by state law, including KRS 61.870 and the inspection provisions in Chapter 61. Those laws affect access to government records, but they do not make this private website a government records custodian.
Advertising partners may use their own technologies to measure activity across websites and serve interest-based ads. That tracking occurs on their systems and is governed by their policies.

We do not sell personal contact messages. Information may be available to the following parties when needed for site operation, advertising, legal compliance, or search-tool use.
- Search partners that process submitted lookup queries.
- Analytics providers that measure site traffic and performance.
- Advertising networks that serve or measure ads.
- Law enforcement, courts, regulators, or government bodies when a valid legal order requires disclosure.
Security Practices
We use reasonable security practices for a small public-information website. No internet-connected service can be guaranteed to be fully secure, and we cannot promise that unauthorized access, technical failure, or data loss will never occur.
Visitors Under 18
This site is intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If a minor has sent information through the site, contact us so the material can be reviewed for deletion.
Your Choices and Rights
- You may ask for a copy of personal information we maintain about you.
- You may ask us to correct information that is inaccurate.
